Retrofit

Classroom 5 days DEA (Domestic Energy Assessor)

About the course

Energy Performance Certificates are required by law as part of the property documents collated by solicitors/conveyancers for every home that is constructed, sold or rented, in England & Wales. Since October 2008 it has also become mandatory that landlords provide EPCs for all tenanted properties. Furthermore, an EPC is also required for schemes such as Energy Company Obligation (ECO) & RHI (Renewable Heat Incentive). These must be issued by a suitably qualified and registered Domestic Energy Assessor.

Retrofit Assessments are required for Funding Schemes currently available for upgrading Domestic properties such as ECO4.

Energy Assessment is a regulated industry in the UK and is undertaken across a number of different situations including domestic buildings, non-domestic and commercial buildings, and air-conditioning systems.

The Domestic Energy Assessor produces an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) using the most recent version of RdSAP when a building is sold or let, and an accredited Assessor can deal with both the sales and lettings markets. The Non-Domestic Energy Assessor collects data on dimensions, construction, heating and hot water provision of commercial and non-commercial buildings in order to produce an EPC using the Simplified Building Energy Model (SBEM). The Air-Conditioning Energy Assessor undertakes mandatory inspections of all air conditioning systems with rated outputs of over 12kw at intervals not exceeding 5 years.

Domestic and Non-Domestic Energy Assessment forms part of the current industry requirements for ECO Funding and Retrofit Assessments. Individuals that currently hold the DEA or NDEA qualifications can ‘upskill’ to Retrofit Assessor.

Anyone interested in energy efficiency and working, or looking for work, as an energy assessor in the construction sector would be advised to look into this course.

Course Details – Classroom Based

Description :

  • Course Title: 6361-01 Level 3 Certificate in Domestic Energy Assessment Awarding Body: City & Guilds

  • This five day classroom based course will give you the skills required to assess buildings and produce accurate Energy Performance Certificates for domestic dwellings. These EPC’s are required to be produced by law when a property is sold or let. EPC’s are also required for some ECO funded installations and any renewable heating installations under the RHI scheme.

  • April 2020 saw the further implementation of the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standards (MEES) in England & Wales. This makes it illegal for private landlords to rent out any properties which have an EPC rating worse than an E.
  • During the course candidates will complete five actual EPC surveys using government approved software. This supports the learning experience with invaluable hands on practical experience. As part of the qualification candidates are required to complete a portfolio of course work. This portfolio will be fully completed before City & Guilds Certificate is issued.
  • Once qualified students will then be required to join one of the Government approved accreditation schemes.
  • Candidates must assemble a Portfolio of Evidence of their competence, including EPCs for five real homes. Each candidate is assigned to a Qualification Assessor to guide them through this process. The Qualification Assessor formally assesses the Portfolio to verify that the candidate meets the requirements of the National Occupational Standards for a DEA.
